The Landgrabbing installation identifies the maps of countries that have been the most impacted by the global land grab. The medium is the broken plate, the very object we use to eat this food. Landgrabbing refers to the acquisition by governments or corporations of large areas of farmland in other countries for the production of food for export. Over the past thirty years, global large scale land acquisitions have had devastating implications on the world’s environment, society and the economy. These issues are often hidden away by governments and corporations who profit the most from this development. Land grabbing causes the destruction of forests, the growing dependency on chemical fertilizers, food waste, global emissions and the displacement of local peoples. Most consumers are unaware of the origin of food and what impact this has on our environment and our society. It impacts everyone on a global scale never seen before.
